Ever since early childhood a passion for doing things with our hands – our first and readiest tools – was struck in my brother Martino and myself in the studio of our father Alessandro Stenico; there, in that enchanted place, in addition to many tools, we had at our disposal a forge and small anvil, so that our first contact with iron working was casual, spontaneous and like a new playmate, who become more and more important to us.
Our acquaintance with masters such as Alfred Habermann, George Pletshacher, Gabriele Curtolo and Claudio Bottero allowed us to broaden our knowledge of the techniques of an ancient art such as that of the smith. For several years I worked and collaborated with Martino and together we were able to see, thanks to our various experiences of working in this field, the importance of working alongside others, the need to look at our work with fresh eyes, from other viewpoints, and with other values.
By so doing we have been able to achieve the necessary flexibility to interpret best the ideas and requirements of others, whether they are discriminating clients or demanding, well prepared architects. Above all it enables us to develop new approaches; in recent years experimenting with and using new materials have become a vital part of my work.
